Induction of Professionals at Senior Levels in Cultural Institutions and Creation of Posts

The Union Cabinet today approved the proposal to fill up the gaps in the organizational structure of cultural institutions with professionals, so that the Heads of Organization and their teams can work together, to upgrade and modernize these organizations. This step will help to bring in best international practices, such as digitization of the records in the institutions like the National Library and the National Archives. The knowledge and expertise of the professionals will help bring these organizations achieve parity with international organizations

For the purpose of achieving the above goals, it is necessary to create suitable posts of professionals in the Archaeological Survey of India, National Archives, National Museum and National Library equivalent to Professors in the University system

Background :

The Ministry of Culture is striving to restructure and strengthen the cultural organizations under its administrative control. The endeavour to induct professionals in the respective fields in the concerned organizations was initiated with the revision of Recruitment Rules for the posts of Heads of eight premier cultural organizations so that these posts could be filled with the suitable experts in the concerned fields. Three eminent professionals have already been selected through Search-cum-Selection procedures to head Archaeological Survey of India, National Archives and National Library. Similar procedures are in operation for the other posts.
