Increment Day for Central Government Employees July 2013
Central Government Employees eagerly awaits the commencement of the
month of July every year. On the first of this month, they are entitled for
annual increment of 3% of their respective basic pay. The 6th CPC had
given more financial benefit than the 5thCPC by introducing a new
method for calculating the increment. In the 5th CPC, the annual
increment was a fixed amount and was given on the appointment of each individual
in their respective departments. But in 4th CPC, the annual increment
is 3% of the basic pay and that to be fixed on a common date for all the
employees irrespective of their appointment date. It also explains the
calculations for the increment as, any amount which falls between 1 and 10
rupees, the amount is to be rounded off to the next 10 rupees.
For example: if an employee’s increment is Rs.401.00, the fixation must be
Rs.410.00, while for an employee who gets Rs.400.90; the increment is to be
fixed at Rs. 400.00 only. This increment is automatically added to their basic
pay every year.
