Reserve 30% flats for govt employees

Reserve 30% flats for govt employees

Ajay Maken, Minister of State of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has requested the urban development ministry to reserve 30% flats for government employees in DDA’s latest housing scheme. Maken has also said that the rest of the flats should be reserved for Delhi residents. In a letter given to Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Urban Development, Maken has said that it has been a long standing demand of government employees in Delhi to have affordable housing provided for them in the capital.

He said there are 65-70,000 housing units available for government employees.

Maken, who is a Member of Parliament from the New Delhi constituency, has also requested the closing date of the scheme, which is on Friday, to be extended by 15-30 days. DDA, the country’s biggest land developer, is offering 16,000 flats located across the capital.

Maken said that with houses reserved only for Delhiites, the discrepancy in severe housing shortage while vacant houses are owned by absentee landlords, will be taken care of and the housing scenario in the capital will be rationalised.

He also said that with this move, there will be fewer irregularities in allotment since the antecedents of Delhiites will be easily verifiable.
